Built for speed and work. All forms of exaggeration should be avoided.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Characteristics<br \/>\n<\/strong>An ideal companion. Highly adaptable in domestic and sporting surroundings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Temperament<br \/>\n<\/strong>Gentle, affectionate, even disposition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Head and Skull<br \/>\n<\/strong>Long and lean, flat on top, tapering to muzzle with slight stop, rather wide between the eyes, jaws powerful and clean-cut, nose black, in blues a bluish colour permitted, liver nose in creams and other dilute colours, in whites or parti-colour a butterfly nose permissible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyes<br \/>\n<\/strong>Oval, bright, expression very alert.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ears<br \/>\n<\/strong>Rose shaped, small, fine in texture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mouth<br \/>\n<\/strong>Jaws strong with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neck<br \/>\n<\/strong>Long, muscular, elegantly arched.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forequarters<br \/>\n<\/strong>Shoulders well laid back with flat muscles. \u00a0Moderate space between the shoulder blades at the withers. \u00a0The upper arm is approximately of equal length to the shoulder, placed so that the elbow falls directly under the withers when viewed in profile. \u00a0Forearms straight and upright with moderate bladed bone. \u00a0Front not too wide. \u00a0Pasterns strong with slight spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Body<br \/>\n<\/strong>Chest very deep with plenty of heart room. \u00a0Well filled in front. \u00a0Brisket deep. \u00a0Broad, well muscled back, firm, somewhat long, showing graceful arch over the loin but not humped. \u00a0Ribs well sprung. \u00a0Loin giving impression of strength and power. \u00a0Definite tuck up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hindquarters<br \/>\n<\/strong>Strong, broad across thighs, with well developed second thighs. \u00a0Stifles well bent without exaggeration with\u00a0hocks well let down. Able to stand naturally over a lot of ground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feet<br \/>\n<\/strong>Oval, well split up between toes, knuckles well arched, pads thick, nails strong.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tail<br \/>\n<\/strong>No feathering. Long, tapering, reaching at least to the hock. \u00a0When in action carried in a delicate curve not higher than the\u00a0back.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gait\/Movement<br \/>\n<\/strong>Should possess great freedom of action. \u00a0In profile should move with a long, easy stride whist holding topline. The forelegs\u00a0should be thrown forward and low over the ground. \u00a0Hind legs should come well under the body giving greater propelling power. \u00a0General movement not to look stilted, high stepping, short or mincing. \u00a0True coming and going.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coat<br \/>\n<\/strong>Fine, short, close in texture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colour<br \/>\n<\/strong>Any colour or mixture of colours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Size<br \/>\n<\/strong>Desirable height: dogs: 47-51 cms (181\/2-20 ins); bitches: 44-47 cms (171\/2-181\/2 ins).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faults<br \/>\n<\/strong>Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<br \/>\n<\/strong>Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last updated &#8211; June 2006<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whippets sind wunderbare Hunde und ganz liebe Hausgenossen.
